Learning to Sew

Re: Learning to Sew

Tams,

Ask at the Whichcraft. They sometimes have courses, and might know otherwise.

They used to have some community type courses my mum learnt through (used to be a Murrumburrah PS) .. I did see something about sewing classes in the local paper last christmas though because I was trying to get mum involved. Something makes me think it had to do with the Court House in Murrumburrah??

You can make her a painting smock next (think extra large shirt with cuffs & collars cut off and elastic sewn into the sleeves and worn backwards *LOL*)

I found a pattern to make one from scratch LOL... if I can pick up a pink or purple shirt I'll do it that way, it seem alot easier to do.

I just patched a pair of Luke's work jeans. Not a great job. I am having a hard time manouvering the thicker material and it keeps bunching up on me... oh and "the expert" tells me I need thicker cotton, which I agree with, but it's all I had. Needless to say even though it was a crappy job I didn't sew the legs or butt together!

Deborah I found a pink gingham check shirt in the top of my wardrobe that the buttons are coming off which I think I had decided to keep for a work shirt (except it's a size 14...) so thought I'd use it. I'll have to get some ideas on what to do with the collar (the sleeves I can handle) I thought about buying some contrasting fabric and sewing a pocket on the front too.

Tams, this is how to make a dress out of a shirt...

My son, who eventually wants to be a costume designer has just started a Cert IV in applied fashion design and technology at TAFE. There are only 17 in the course.

He's learning sewing, design, patternmaking. I've told him that once he's become more proficient that he has to design and make me a made to measure outfit.
